Art therapy and expressive arts therapy are found to be an effective for working with clients to address their issues for it focuses on the unspoken and body-based knowledge that are not always available through talk therapy.
Art therapy focuses on the process not the product through exploration of creative outlets using various art mediums such as drawing materials, paint, clay, collaging, printmaking, and even incorporating movement and rhythm. Through this hands-on approach, we work to restore one’s connection with the felt sense experience and help to integrate feelings, personal narrative and what it means in their world.
Art therapy does not require any art making experience in order to be of benefit to ones therapeutic process and is a powerful medium not only for children and youth, but teens and adults can also benefit from working in this modality.
