Martin Art Therapy and Psychotherapy welcomes Kiana Reddock as a Psychotherapy Intern this Fall
In Kiana’s own words:
“I went into mental health because I want to help people (of course!) and I believe that human connection can make us stronger, and I enjoy being exposed to different perspectives.
I am a graduate from the University of Toronto with a Bachelor of Science in Psychology in 2020 and am currently finishing her Master’s in Counselling Psychology from Athabasca University.
My areas of interest relate to trauma, anxiety, abuse, depression, and grief, and I work from a trauma-informed lens. I utilize a Dialectical Behavior Therapy (DBT) approach to aid in emotion regulation and relational challenges, as well as other modalities that fit with the client’s goals of wellbeing.
I have experience with issues such as trauma, abuse, anxiety, depression, immigration, eating disturbances, self-esteem, and addictions and supporting many individuals with diverse identities including those from the BIPOC communities. I trained as a trauma-informed counsellor and worked for the Women's Multicultural Resource and Counselling Centre and also as a residential counsellor for Lakeridge Health. I also have extensive volunteer experience as a distress call supervisor at the Certified Listeners Society and as a peer support specialist for those with eating disorders at The Looking Glass Foundation.
My goal with you is to build a therapeutic relationship based on compassion, integrity, and authenticity, and I believe that by creating a caring environment, growth can flourish.
Aside from mental health, I have a strong interest in art, reading, baking, and lifting weights. I enjoy experiencing new things with loved ones, as long as it does not involve heights. So, you have learned a little about me, and I cannot wait to learn more about you.”
